Strawberry farmers from La Esperanza Honduras have been able to expand their production, and by having a high-quality product (thanks to volunteer Martin Lopez supported by the Farmer-to-Farmer Program), are able to sell their strawberries in the national market for 15L (79¢) per pound, in comparison to the market price of 6L (32¢) per pound. This added income, earned through having consistent, high quality production throughout the year, has alllowed these communities to noticeably improve their standards of living and that of their children. The girls pictured above are the children of one of the strawberry farmers who was able to earn enough extra income to send their children to school. 2008
